Core Web Vitals Prioritisation

Episode Overview:

Join host Ben as he chats with Marcus Tober, Founder and Chief Evangelist at Searchmetrics. Together they dive deeper into Core Web Vitals and discuss Marcus’s findings.

Marcus kicks off the discussion with how much information Google has been releasing prior to the new Page Experience Ranking Signals. With Google being more transparent about updates and releases, the SEO community has had a year to plan for the rollout in May.

Each of the Core Web Vital measures things like site speed, loading images, and more. The three different metrics are Largest Content for Paint, First Input Delay, and Cumulative Layout Shift. The signals gauge the health of your website performance and rankings. All of these metrics are placed to benefit the user experience.

Marcus shares some of his findings from a study that he has conducted. His reasoning for conducting the study is to have a benchmark for website performance before Core Web Vitals are released. Some of the insights he gleaned were that nearly 97% of websites crawled did not score well. Webmasters and SEOs have some work ahead of them.
